It is sad that I often observe that a lot of curious students addict themselves into newest tools and cool languages but ignoring foundations in CS.   Hey, you need polish your craft skill first.   As an educator, I hope that we can help students to realize that the formal de-context schooling education is essential for them to succeed.  How to approach this problem effectively and efficiently?

I have been trying using some videos while learning some subjects. Sometimes it works OK especially when I don't have books available. It works best when I have chance to listen very inspiring lectures delivered by people who are able to provide insightful views about subjects of interest, and those views are usually not from any books but from their own thoughts and experiences. But most time so far videos are not my favorite format I use to systematically learn something, even though I like watching videos to see how the video presenters deliver their work. JavaFX

I am learning JavaFX, which is intended to replace Java SWING as the standard GUI library.   The new Java 8 SDK includes the Java Running Environment (JRE) plus tools to develop, develop, and monitor Java application.  The SDK is  available at  Oracle's Java SE download site.     The SDK includes JavaFX in its distribution.   Well, I downloaded the new Java SE 8 package, which has JavaFX included!  I am done for this part. I am excited to try the new features of JavaFX due to the painful experiences of using SWING to build GUIs.   According to  Oracle's JavaFX documentation , there are quite a few key features available from JavaFX including Java API, scene builder, web view, SWING interoperability, self-contained application deployment model, etc.  I will try the features during this spring.   To facilitate building JavaFX projects, I'd like to extend the JavaFX plug-in to my favorite Eclipse IDE.  I am using Eclips...
